Maintaining health is responsibility for each individual, particularly the elderly, since it is one of important factors to support their activities. Students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) held Integrated Development Post Program (POSBINDU) in Bantul Traditional Market on Sunday (10/4).
POSBINDU is an integrated health care for the elderly like measurement of height, weight, blood pressure, cholesterol and blood glucose level. It also provides health counseling and nutrition. “This event is our contribution to cultivate health of the elderly. Indeed, the number of elders are quite high,” stated Ena Septianingsih, a Nursing student of UMY.
Ena told that the Posbindu was conducted in the market because most the people of Bantul are busy as sellers in the market so that they do not have time to perform regular medical check-up although Posyandu has existed in each village in Bantul. “Providing the Posbindu is to ease public to access it so that they can check their health during their bustle,” she conveyed.
The Posbindu will be conducted for 3 month, and it is one of the Student Creativity Programs of Community Services (PKM-M) organized by Directorate General of Higher Education (DIKTI). “This program is funded by DIKTI after handing over a proposal entitled “L-SAR 118 Layanan POSBINDU Berbasis Pasar (Market-Based L-SAR 118 Posbindu Service)” Ena informed.
There will be health cadres to sustain the program of the Posbindu. The trader in this market through this POSBINDU will organize the sustainability of this program in the future. “The cadres will lead and coordinate with other sellers to undertake Posbindu weekly. The market, then, may be able to be a pilot project of other markets to organize Posbindu,” Ena said.
Additionally, the PKM members comprised Ena Septiningsih as the chief, Anisa Rantnasari, Eka Safitri AS Sangadji, Masita Dewi A, as the members and Dr. Titih Huriah, Mkep., NS ., Sp.Kep.K as the supervisor.
