Two students of Economic Faculty of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) became the winner of Unnes (Semarang State University) Capital Market Competition (UCMC) 2015. The competition was organized by Unnes Stock Exchange Study Forum (UNSSAF) collaborating with PT Bursa Efek Indonesia (BEI) and PT Phintraco Securities. The team of UMY won over University of Padjadaran (UNPAD) and University of Diponegoro (UNDIP) becoming the runner up and the second runner up. In 2014, UMY also obtained the runner up of Stock Online Trading by PT Philips Securities Indonesia.
Both students were Yovi Hendriana and Robi Jamil Romdoni. Yovi stated that the UCMC was a tight competition. “The competition was for Indonesian university students. We compete with students from 40 universities like UGM, Unnes, IPB, UI, UNPAD, and UNY,” he informed in an interview on Friday (20/11).
Yovi told that the competition began from Online Trading Competition on 21-25 September 2015. In the competition, participants had to undertake trading online with 100 million rupiahs for first capital. Yovi inserted, “UMY gained interest 11% and was in top five.” Top 10, then, passed to the next round of the competition held in Semarang State University on 9-10 October.
In the first day (9/10), the participants join a round of check point and running question. In this round, the participants had written test to examine their skills of capital market as investment valuation on securities like stocks, bonds, and mutual funds. “In this round, there were 8 teams passing to next round. The eight teams were UMY, MH Tamrin, UNIDIP, UNY, Atmajaya, and UNPAD,” Yovi said.
The next round was showcase aiming at examining fundamental analysis of investment decision-making. Participants received a case regarding ‘Jokowi’s Policy Volume III on Manufacture Sector in Indonesia Stock Exchange. “In this round, UMY achieved the highest score and passes to Beauty Contest with two other finalists. Beauty Contest was the last competition round. It was analyzing a company bought by participants on online trading round. It was fundamental and technical analysis and providing reasons of selecting the stocks. “UMY presented stocks of PT Sri Rejeki Isman Tck, a textile and garment company. We won over the team of UNPAD and UNDIP,” he ended.
