Indonesia is one of the biggest countries in drug trafficking, still. In fact, most drug users and dealers come from high school and university students, who are supposed to be the main agents of drug eradication and are not supposed to be the victims of this crime.
It was uttered by the head of Badan Narkotika Nasional Provinsi (BNNP) of National Narcotics Agency of Province of Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (DIY), Budi Harso, M. Si. He was as a speaker of a seminar of “Pemberdayaan Satgas Anti Narkoba di Lingkungan Mahasiswa” (“Empowerment of Anti-Drug Task Force in University Environment”) in hall room of AR. Fachruddin A of Universitas Muhamadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) on Monday (10/11).
Budi explained that university students being victims of drug case could turn to agents of anti-drugs. Thus, the students could immediately get involved in activities of eradicating drugs. Before carrying out their duty as major agents of drug eradication, they need debriefing to be able to conduct it well and find out effective strategies in eradicating drugs.
“We know that students can most likely be one of society elements that become the victims of drugs. We have to bring them to be agents of anti-drugs. Thus, it is hoped that they could directly promote activities to eradicate drugs, and this way could run effectively. One of the ways to train them is through an event like this. The training given by BNN to university students, well-known as anti-drug task force in university environment, aims at supporting young generations as the foremost agents of drug eradication,” he stated.
Budi added that he was very glad to attend the seminar with students who contribute to anti-drug task force coordinated by BNN Yogyakarta.
“I am very pleased that I could attend in front of all of you who actively contribute to anti-drug task force coordinated by BNN. I would like to encourage you that we fully support all activities which you undertake to exterminate drugs in university environment,” he expound.
In addition, the head of Pekan Kreativitas Mahasiswa (PKM), Sugito, M. Si., on the behalf of the vice chancellor of the university conveyed that he thanked to BNN for giving UMY the belief to conduct the seminar. Sugito argued that Indonesia was one of the implausible targets of drug trafficking and abuse.
“Alhamdulillah, BNN has believed UMY in cooperating to hold this seminar. Since Indonesia is one of the unbelievable targets of drug trafficking and abuse, roles of universities and government are a strategic step to eliminate drugs. Moreover, university students are the main targets of drug trafficking”, said this lecture of International Relations of UMY.
This seminar was attended by several student representatives from Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), Gajah Mada University (UGM), Stikes Ahmad Yani Yogyakarta, Stikes Alma Ata Yogyakarta, Yogyakarta University of Technology (UTY), Bina Sarana Informatika (BSI) Yogakarta, and NGO of Gerakan Anti Narkoba (GRANAT) Yogyakarta joining in anti-drug task force coordinated by BNN.
